Alphabet soup is an audiovisual installation consisting of a 5 axis CNC camera, relief collage, computer, audio sampler and speakers.
The computer randomly moves the camera which records the miniature landscape of the collage. It then superimposes simulated beings which respond to the brightness values of the image pixels and each other. The beings are depicted as the letters of the alphabet and organically self organise into random sequences. The speed of their movement is used to generate a sound-wave which is added to the sound of the motors recorded with an induction microphone and played through the speakers.
